Driving

Customers at Orange auto sales are happy to hear that the 2017 Toyota Corolla comes with two versions of a 1.8-liter cylinder engine. In all trims other than the LE Eco, the engine generates 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque.

The LE Eco’s engine utilizes an advanced valvetrain to maximize fuel efficiency and creates slightly more power, with 140 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque.

Many Corollas are equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Although you can go for the option of a six-speed manual transmission with the SE trim.

Furthermore, the Corolla LE Eco accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds which is normal for small sedan vehicles.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 30 mpg combined, 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway for the Corolla SE with the manual transmission. CVT models with 16-inch wheels get up to 32 mpg combined, 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The larger 17-inch wheels make you forfeit 1 mpg on your estimated fuel economy at 31 mpg combined, 28 mpg in the city, and 35 mpg on the highway.

The best of the range is the LE Eco with 34 mpg combined, 30 mpg in the city, and 40 mpg on the highway with 15-inch wheels. The 16-inch wheels give an estimated fuel economy of 33 mpg combined, 29 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

The SE trim is considered to be the sporty trim of the Corolla.

The SE evolves on the LE's features and you can get it in a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a six-speed manual transmission. The SE features 17-inch alloy wheels, unique front-end styling with a black mesh grille, heated color-keyed side mirrors with turn signal indicators, a rear spoiler, a chrome-tipped exhaust, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters (for CVT models), sport front seats, a sport-style gauge cluster and, for manual transmission models, a sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, and the upgraded Entune audio system.

Continually, there is an SE 50th Anniversary edition that adds anniversary badging, gray-painted 17-inch wheels, and upgraded upholstery as well as trim with Black Cherry contrast stitching.

A few options packages are also on hand. LE and LE Eco models can select the Premium package, which adds 16-inch alloy wheels, bumper-integrated LED running lights and Entune Audio Plus. A sunroof can be added to this package for LE models since it is included with the package for LE Eco.

The Premium package for SE CVT models consists of Entune Audio Plus and a sunroof, while XLE and XSE models can opt for Entune Premium Audio with an integrated navigation system and the Entune App Suite.

Comfort

The 2017 Corolla’s interior is good-looking, with a stylish dashboard, a cool sport-contoured steering wheel, and an outstanding asymmetrical shifter surround. However, the Corolla keeps ease of use a top priority, so instead of hiding the most sought after audio and climate functions in the touchscreen menus, the Corolla cleverly uses traditional buttons and dials for audio and climate functions.

Nevertheless, the touchscreen is nice to see.it has large virtual buttons, clear graphics, and fast response time to touch inputs. Also, it is one of the most straightforward infotainment systems to use in the economy car class.

The available Entune App Suite integrates smartphone-connected services including Bing, Facebook, Yelp and Pandora, as well as real-time traffic data, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone app integration aren’t available.

Overall the 2017 Toyota Corolla provides adequate comfort, head as well as legroom, sufficient power, style, fuel efficiency and enough acceleration to get you to and fro. It is an impressive compact car that provides all your driving needs as you go about your errands, getting to the daily grind, or just dropping the kids to school and their activities.
