Since hybrid vehicles were first introduced about 20 years ago, they have taken the American market by storm as an affordable fuel-efficient option for car buyers. The Toyota Prius is the figurehead of hybrid technology and continues to be a common alternative to regular gas engine vehicles. A most beloved vehicle, the Prius has undergone a number of engineering and design enhancements over the years in order to optimize its capacity for performance and passenger comfort. Toyota near Irvine points out that the 2020 Toyota Prius has continued this legacy with attention to digital connectivity, safety feature improvements, and a spacious cabin.

Any Toyota dealer near Irvine could tell you that the new 2020 Toyota Prius offers an estimated 58 mpg in the city, 53 mpg on the highway, and a combined EPA-estimated 56 mpg for the L Eco grade model. The Prius AWD-e model, which is available for LE and XLE grades, includes an electric-powered all-wheel drive that improves handling for harsh weather and rougher roads.

Now, all 2020 Prius models offer Toyota Safety Connect as well as Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa compatibility. In the past, Toyota Safety Connect was limited to the highest grade models. Irvine Toyota dealers explains that this safety package provides Emergency Assistance, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification, and Stolen Vehicle Locator. Car buyers will receive a free three-year trial of the system with the purchase of a 2020 model.

The Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform is the key to providing drive-sensitive improvements to the 2020 Toyota Prius. With a stronger vehicle structure, advanced multi-link rear suspension, and a lower center of gravity, the Prius achieves better performance capabilities than ever before. Toyota near Irvine claims that passengers will enjoy a smoother, quieter ride than in any previous Prius model.

Engineers of the 2020 Toyota Prius have chosen high tensile, hot-stamped steel material to build the durable, yet light body of the vehicle. The 2020 model also utilizes aluminum for hood, rear door frame, and brake caliper elements to maintain a lower weight. With advanced engineering practices like laser screw welding and new adhesives, the 2020 Prius also provides car buyers with a strong, reliable structure.

Like any Toyota Prius, the 2020 model is no exception to hybrid technology innovation. It has a hybrid synergy drive that integrates a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine output with two motor-generators through an electronic planetary-type continuously variable transmission, or CVT.

With an electronically controlled brake system, the 2020 Prius alternates control between the hydraulic brake force and regenerative braking. Also, the gas-powered engine exceeds 40% thermal efficiency with a lower internal friction and efficient combustion system. This percentage is one of the best in the world.

The Prius L Eco model offers 58 mpg in the city, 53 mpg on the highway, and a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy of 56 mpg. Other model grades (LE, XLE, Limited) that provide more equipment features have 54 mpg in the city, 50 mpg on the highway, and 52 mpg combined.

With front-wheel drive, the 2020 Prius utilizes a lithium ion battery. In comparison, AWD-e models have a nickel-metal hydride battery. The Prius AWD-e models allow for a certain kind of resilience to extreme heat and extreme cold, which makes these batteries perfect for colder weather. The XLE grade, for both front-wheel drive and AWD-e, also comes with heated front seats that feature the advanced SofTex trim.

The 2020 Prius improves aerodynamics with a 0.24 coefficient of drag, automatic grille shutter, and a quiet electric compressor for the AC system. Not only does this reduce wind resistance for a better driving performance, but it also increases the efficiency of energy used. Additionally, the Smart-flow mode in the vehicle allows for improved conservation of energy where passenger airflow is concerned.

With Bi-LED headlamps and LED rear combination lamps, the 2020 Prius offers a longer-living and stronger light resource with improved energy efficiency. The widened glass panel under the rear spoiler enhances visibility and adds to the design personality. All 2020 Prius grades come with a backup camera.

Prius owners are especially excited for the 2020 model’s attention to cargo space in both the front-wheel drive and AWD-e versions. There is 65.5 cubic feet of space in the front-wheel drive model with the rear seats folded and 62.7 cubic feet of space in the AWD-e model. As an added bonus, the 2020 Prius is compatible with the Toyota Accessory cargo crossbars to carry more items on the roof.

All-wheel drive was first available to Prius models in 2019. Not only did this feature improve vehicle traction, it also maintained the fuel efficiency that consumers came to expect for the Prius design. Now, with 52 mpg in the city, 48 mpg on the highway, and 50 mpg combined, the Prius AWD-e is one of the best fuel-efficient vehicles with all-wheel drive in the United States.

If you didn’t already know, the “e” in AWD-e stands for electronic. This component is very important to the traction capabilities of the vehicle. It is an automatic, on-demand system that operates without need of a torque-apportioning device, front-to-rear driveshaft, or a center differential. The vehicle can shift from all-wheel drive to front-wheel drive when needed to optimize fuel economy. With a magnet-less independent electric rear motor, the vehicle has the power to control the rear wheels away from a stop at up to 6 mph and at speeds of 43 mph.

The 2020 Prius is available in L Eco, Le, XLE, and Limited trims for front-wheel drive. The Le and XLE trims offer AWD-e versions as well. This new model continues the paint options of Electric Storm Blue and Supersonic Red that the 2019 model introduced.

The 2020 Prius provides a 4.2 inch color Dual Multi-Information Display with customizable screens including Energy Monitor, Hybrid System Indicator and Eco Score, Drive Monitor, Eco Savings Record, Eco Diary, Eco Wallet, driver support systems, audio system content, navigation system content, and Climate Control. The Prius AWD-e models include an AWD-e system indicator as well.

Along with offering the Toyota Safety Connect package, the 2020 Prius LE comes with a 7 inch Toyota Audio touch-screen display, Apple Carplay and Amazon Alexa compatibility for the 2020 year, the Smart Key System for the driver’s door, Push Button Start and remote illuminated entry, a rear wiper, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Intelligent Parking Assist.

The Toyota Audio system in the Prius offers a 7 inch touch-screen display, AM/FM CD player, 6 speakers, auxiliary audio jack, one USB 2.0 port with iPod connection, two 2.1-amp USB charge ports, advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone connection, music streaming, phone book access, Siri Eyes Free, and an integrated backup camera display.

The 2020 Prius XLE grade has all of these features along with 17 inch alloy wheels for front-wheel drive (or 15 inch for AWD-e), a SofTex trim on a heated tilt/telescopic steering wheel, 8-way power and heated front seats, Qi wireless phone charging tray that fits bigger phones, and a 3-door Smart Key system.

Lastly, the 2020 Prius Limited offers advanced technology like an Adaptive Front Lighting System with auto-leveling headlamps, Toyota Premium JBL Audio with navigation, and a 11.6 inch touch-screen display. The Color Head-Up Display comes standard on this grade which allows drivers to view the speedometer and Hybrid System Indicator.
