With the established Toyota Racing Development (TRD) platform, Toyota has enhanced a wide range of its vehicles for an excellent achievement of durability and performance. The Toyota Avalon is one model that has long been admired by Irvine Toyota dealer customers and, finally, the 2020 Avalon is spoiled with the TRD treatment.

Irvine car dealerships reflect on the Toyota Avalon’s 25 years of gracing the market for car buyers. The name “Avalon” is inspired by the island mentioned in Arthurian legend. The mythical island is imagined to have roads that twist and turn, making for an exhilarating ride in a 2020 Toyota Avalon TRD.

The 2019 Avalon was the first model year to integrate the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which contributed to its coupe-inspired style. The TNGA platform also offered alternative methods of engineering certain features in the vehicle, incorporating technical advancement in the Avalon.

Toyota dealer sales representatives in Irvine can’t help but admire the 2020 Avalon TRD for providing greater road capabilities than ever before. The new model has a track-tuned chassis and a 301-hp V6 engine integrated with the elements first seen in the Avalon XSE level. Much like the 2020 Camry TRD, the new Avalon model exudes speed and agility along with strength and capability.

Toyota customers are happy to learn that the 2020 Avalon includes standard features like Apple Carplay and offers Dynamic Auxiliary Turn Signals along with aluminum and Yamaha wood cabin accents to heighten the vehicle’s capacity for luxury.

The TRD trim is available for the LE grade as well as the XLE, XSE, Limited, and Touring. Toyota customers can also access the Avalon hybrid engine in the XLE, XSE, and Limited grade models. The Avalon HV provides a particularly impressive fuel-efficient system that is both unexpected and treasured in its class. All 2020 Avalon grade models will offer the Toyota Safety Sense-P package that provides a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, and available intelligent clearance sonar with rear cross traffic braking.

The 2020 Avalon comes with a backup camera and a bird’s eye view camera with a perimeter scan to optimize visibility for the driver at all angles. In order to enhance safety features, the Avalon provides 10 standard airbags along with Toyota’s Star Safety System that comes with enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, an anti-lock braking system, brake assist, and smart stop technology.

The TRD trim does more than offer sleek, athletic details to the Avalon’s aesthetic appeal. TRD is a 40-year long history of racing-grade performance engineering to celebrate motorsports and automobile endurance. The Avalon integrates a direct-injected 301 horsepower DOHC 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with a direct-shift eight-speed automatic transmission. This system also provides paddle shifters and sport mode. With an exclusive TRD-tuned cat-back dual exhaust, the Avalon delivers that extra boost of energetic sound to satisfy any racing enthusiast.

With thick braces on the underbody, the Avalon optimizes torsion control and utilizes specially-designed coil springs to lower its center of gravity. The TRD trim offers a special set of shock absorbers to add to the chassis with improved steering control.

The 2020 Avalon offers an aerodynamic design with side aero skirts, trunk lid spoiler, rear diffuser, and front splitter to add personality and speed to an already dynamic vehicle. The exterior paint color options consist of Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, and Supersonic Red (only for the TRD trim). For an especially race-inspired look, car buyers can choose the red pinstripe option on the aerodynamic design features.

The 2020 Avalon TRD interior includes SofTex material front seats that include Ultrasuede inserts and red accent styling. The red TRD embroidering is added to the headrests, steering wheel, seatbelts, and shift knob.

With a specially designed wheelbase, the 2020 Avalon is lower and wider than previous model years by about an inch. This new shape supports a more spacious cabin and an efficient performance in terms of speed and agility.

Between grade levels, the 2020 Avalon sports a variety of design features. The XLE and Limited grades have a dark gray front grille with a chrome border, silver-colored LED headlight bezels, rearview mirror housings that are the same color as the body, and 17-19 inch wheels with chrome badging and dual exhaust tips. The XSE and Touring grades have a black mesh grille, machine finish with gloss-black wheels, black outer mirror housings, headlight bezels, trunk lid spoiler and badging.

The LED Vision Tech headlamps on the XSE and XLE grade models utilize three reflectors for low- and high-beam functions and Daytime Running Lights which allows for better light distribution in foggy weather.

The Touring and Limited grade models contain small lighting modules for each headlamp and include an Adaptive LED Cornering Lamp and Dynamic Auxiliary Turn Signal. These lights improve visibility for twisty roads in darker environments. The Dynamic Auxiliary Turn Signal system also optimizes visibility for nearby cars with sequential programming.

The 2020 Avalon interior invokes a feeling of luxury with features like rear air vents, seat warmers, and USB charging ports along with charming accents and simplified control panels. Plush seat materials add to passenger comfort and detailed trims are pleasing to the eye.

As far as interior design variation between the Avalon grade levels, there are only slight differences to note. The XLE includes a wood-inspired trim while the Limited features real wood material. The TRD, Touring, and XSE grades have aluminum trims. Ultrasuede and perforated SofTex material adorn the seating for Touring and XSE grades. Softex-trimmed passenger seats for the XLE have vertical stitching while the Limited further includes perforated designs and two colors for the stitching along with a quilt pattern.

The 2020 Avalon XSE, XLE, and TRD come standard with an Audio Plus 8-speaker system with Navigation Scout GPS Link App and App Suite Connect. The 9-inch touchscreen recognizes pinching and flicking finger gestures as well as normal tapping. Apple Carplay comes with every grade of the 2020 Avalon. The Limited and Touring grades include Toyota Premium Audio with JBL as a standard feature. This is also available for the other grades with a 14-speaker sound system and Dynamic Navigation.

2020 Avalon car buyers will receive a 3-year free trial period of Safety Connect and Service Connect as well as a 6-month free trial of Remote Connect. This will allow vehicle owners to decide if they require these digital safety features on a long-term basis.

The Avalon has so much to offer to Toyota customers, especially with the newly available TRD trim. Toyota Racing Development continues to enhance Toyota vehicles with attention to engineering performance-based parts that fit each model, creating a truly remarkable machine.
